Our story

Kula’s story begins in 2019, when, as a new couple, we moved to Chesterfield and started to build our home.

From day one, we felt welcomed into the community and knew that in some way we'd like to give back.

Throughout our twenties, yoga and mindfulness played an active role in our lives. And in the messiness and isolation of the pandemic, alongside family losses and Bronwyn’s arthritis diagnosis, we both felt the benefits these offered us.

Fast-forward to the summer of 2023, and during a random moment of scrolling through Rightmove, Bronwyn stumbled across an empty unit. She instantly knew it was meant for us, so showed it to Kevin and said something like:

Wouldn’t this be a great community space? Somewhere people could come together, learn yoga and mindfulness. We could really offer something to help people live happier and healthier lives.

Kevin said yes and Kula was born.

Movement and tuning into our bodies and minds have played an active role in shaping who we are as people. They are the foundation on which we've navigated through harder times. And it feels so right to us both that we can share these beautiful practices with you.

Our space is small, but our hearts are big. We hope you’ll visit us soon.

Paying it forward

There's an old Anatolian tradition.

When you're buying a loaf of bread at the bakery, you can buy an extra loaf that gets bagged and hung on a hook in the shop. When someone in need comes by, they can ask if there's any bread on the hook. If so, the bread is shared.

For us, yoga and mindfulness are just as essential to living a full life.

Just like the bakery, there's a hook on our wall. Our paid-for classes subsidise class passes for those in need and help us hold regular pay-what-you-can classes for our community. Sharing wellbeing to more people in our community.

A big vision for a small space.

Meet Bronwyn & Kevin.

Bronwyn is a 200hr Registered Yoga Teacher and specialises in embodied movement and Trauma Informed teaching. She believes that as we become more in-tune with our bodies, we can start to embrace ourselves better, grow and heal.

Kevin is a climber and writer, fascinated by how we can be happier by living more intentionally. He's meditated since 2013, studied simple living and has done a 10-day Vipassana silent meditation course. He’ll be offering mindfulness classes at Kula.
